Final Thoughts on my Fall 2021 Harvard Photography class:

Growth as a Photographer

By: Kody Christiansen

Day one was a little bit rocky,
But week eight felt a little more -”Kody.”

Then, I got into a groove
When the assignment got us on the move,

And finally, I made real strides -
My final project - my pride of all prides.

I learned a lot in this course -

Techniques and stories - at the source.

An f stop could not stop me,
From discovering new things to see -

I’m grateful for the lessons taught,
I got exactly what was promised and sought.

Lighting tricks and great new skills,

New adventures and unexpected thrills.

Photography captures moments everlasting -

And, isn’t that a beautiful thing?

I have definitely grown as a photographer and a photojournalist over the span of this semester. I learned that my camera had many more options than I ever thought possible - and that exploring beyond the auto function can produce some wonderful images and exciting adventures. I also felt a new sense of confidence when it came to my final project topic and really dove in to discover an important story that needed to be told. I am grateful for what I have learned in this class and will take it with me as I continue on my photography journey. I am also grateful that this class pushed me to create this website - I know I will continue to add photo projects, art, poetry, writing, and more to it for years to come.
